Say NO to Costly Fossil Fuels

And YES to Clean Energy

In their latest energy plan, Georgia Power is walking back promises to retire coal power plants and doubling down on unpredictably priced fossil fuels, instead of investing in clean energy solutions that lower costs and protect Georgia communities. Families across the state are already struggling with rising energy bills, while Georgia Power seeks to cash in on the data center boom. Our faith calls us to care for our neighbors and protect Sacred Earth. The Georgia Public Service Commission has the power to choose a just and moral path for our energy future and say NO to Georgia Power’s fossil fuel expansion. Will you join us in calling for clean, affordable energy that prioritizes people over corporate profit?

PETITION:

Dear Public Service Commissioners,

Please don’t put Georgia families’ health and financial well-being on the line just so Georgia Power can cash in on data centers.

As people of faith, we are called to care for our neighbors and protect Sacred Earth. Yet, Georgia Power’s latest energy plan puts communities at risk—doubling down on dirty, expensive fossil fuels instead of investing in clean energy that benefits all Georgians.

Coal is outdated and harmful. Methane gas is polluting and unpredictably priced. And yet, Georgia Power wants to power the future of technology with these polluting fuels not because it serves the people of Georgia, but because it benefits their bottom line.

For years, Georgia families have faced rising energy bills, with many struggling to keep the lights on. Instead of ensuring Georgia is an energy leader in solutions that ease financial burdens like energy efficiency, demand-side management, and strong community and rooftop solar programs, Georgia Power is doubling down on fossil fuels to serve power-hungry data centers.

Our faith traditions teach us to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly. A just energy future does not burden struggling families while allowing corporations to profit. A moral energy future prioritizes clean, affordable power that protects the most vulnerable among us.

There is a better way. Expanding access to clean energy, increasing efficiency programs, and supporting local solar initiatives will lower costs for families, protect public health, and steward our resources wisely. It will also create a more resilient and equitable energy system.

Georgia Power has miscalculated energy demand before. If the data center boom doesn’t unfold as expected, families should not be left paying the price for dirty, expensive fossil fuels. The Georgia Public Service Commission has a responsibility to choose a path of justice and sustainability.

We urge you: Say NO to fossil fuel expansion and YES to a clean energy future that serves all Georgians——one that reflects our shared responsibility to care for our neighbors and protect our Common Home!

Sincerely, those in faith,
