Children and Youth Book Recommendations

Engaging children and youth in environmental justice is easier than you think! Invite them to join your Green Team, take them on sustainability experiences or read with them. Below are suggested books accessible to children and youth with purchase links. As always, you may save paper by ordering the ebook version or by checking them out from your public library.

Film Recommendations

Hosting film screenings with your faith community can be a fantastic way to introduce and engage intergenerational groups in environmental justice. GIPL is happy to assist with setting up, acquiring, and promoting film screenings, providing discussion questions and/or facilitating a panel. Pairing a film with an activity like a letter-writing workshop is also a great way to take action on a related topic.

The suggested honorarium for a film screening and discussion/workshop is $150.

Video Recommendations

These short videos cover a wide range of introductory material from “What is Environmental Justice?” to why my faith calls me to care for the environment. If you have a good video you’d like to share with us, please email our program team at program@gipl.org.

Curriculum

Leading a small group class or series on caring for God’s creation or Sacred Earth can be a great way to engage folks of all ages in pressing environmental justice concerns in your community. If you need help finding a curriculum or would like to view GIPL’s Green Resources in person, schedule an appointment with a program team member today at program@gipl.org.

Theological Resources

Written by seminary professors and leading theologians with ties to GIPL and the work of environmental stewardship in Georgia, these reads are helpful for preachers, academics, and religious scholars looking to dive deeper into the theology behind environmental justice.

Worship Resources

Green Teams and Faith Leaders are encouraged to talk about incorporating creation care themes into their worship services. This may include planning a creation care service around Earth Day (April 22) and/or incorporating creation-themed songs/hymns and prayers into weekly worship. The resources below provide worship materials such as prayers, litanies, poems, and sermon suggestions. If you have a good resource you’d like to share with us, please email our program team at program@gipl.org.
