The Okefenokee Swamp, a vital 438,000-acre National Wildlife Refuge and one of Georgia's Seven Natural Wonders, faces threat from proposed mining near its border, but ongoing efforts aim to protect its delicate ecosystem.

Biomass (burning wood pellets for energy) emits more carbon per megawatt than coal, worsening the climate crisis and harming air quality—especially in low-income, rural, and coastal Georgia communities. It must end!

Coal ash is the toxic waste left behind from coal-burning power plants, and roughly six million tons is currently stored in 29 unlined ponds near Georgia’s rivers and lakes, threatening clean water and public health. It’s time for safe cleanup and stronger regulations!

As climate change drives extreme heat and Georgia Power raises bills, low-income communities and communities of color are forced to choose between essentials like food and electricity. Everyone deserves safe, clean and affordable energy!
