Wylde Center Green Team Tour/Workday
Join fellow Green Team members at the Wylde Center Sugar Creek site in Decatur, Georgia on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for a tour and partial workday. Drawdown GA Webinar: Climate Solutions for Congregations
Georgia’s communities of faith have the power to change the world. Coastal Green Team Summit
Green Team Summits are opportunities for faith leaders, Green Team members, and environmental activists to come together for a day of learning and fellowship. This summit on Sept. 21 at the First Presbyterian Church of Savannah will focus on ways coastal faith communities can foster spiritual and ecological resilience in the face of the climate crisis. At the summit, participants will hear from a panel of local faith leaders, participate in roundtable discussions, and attend workshops on local climate issues, coastal resilience, Green Team organizing, and advocacy. World River Day
Join us, the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, and Ismaili CIVIC on World River Day and Global Ismaili CIVIC Day, Sept. 15, to act upon a shared ethic of environmental stewardship and clean up seven sites in metro Atlanta including one at the Peachtree Creek Greenway in Brookhaven, two more in Decatur at the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve and Mason Mill Park, a location in Fulton County, Fayette County, Gwinnett County, and another in West Atlanta. Intown Family Garba 2024

Summer of Advocacy - Day of Visibility
Join us on July 18 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. as we conclude our inaugural Summer of Advocacy with a "honk and wave" visibility event in Atlanta. During the event, we will gather as people of faith and conscience outside the Office of U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia to raise awareness around the need to "Defend our Climate" and promote policies that lead to cleaner air, cleaner water, and environmental justice!
Green Team Tour: Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Join other metro Atlanta Green Teams on a sustainability tour of Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Mercedes-Benz is the first stadium in the world to be awarded the Total Resource Use and Efficiency (TRUE) Platinum certification for its zero-waste efforts. The stadium diverts over 90% of all waste generated from sporting events and concerts away from landfills, incineration, and the environment. It is also incredibly energy efficient, leveraging renewable energy from 4,000 solar PV panels and an innovative design to reduce electrical use by 29%. Learn more and register below.
Georgia BRIGHT Virtual Info Session
Join Georgia Interfaith Power and Light (GIPL) for a virtual informational session with Georgia BRIGHT on Thursday, July 11 at 7 p.m. GIPL and Georgia BRIGHT are dedicated to helping Georgia's low- and middle-income communities access solar energy through discounted solar leases. The BRIGHT program saves customers money on their utility bills, requires no upfront cost, and Georgia BRIGHT handles all the installation and maintenance of the solar panels. To qualify, participants must own their home (or congregation building), have a roof in good condition, and meet certain income requirements (no minimum credit score required). July 2024 Green Team Roundtable
Join other Green Team leaders and members from across the state to learn, share, collaborate, and plan eco-projects together! Our next Green Team Roundtable is on Tuesday, July 9 at noon on Zoom. The discussion will be led by South Georgia Organizer, Othellious Cato, and will consider the impact of "Urban Heat Islands" in Georgia.
These pockets occur when municipalities replace natural land cover with dense concentrations of pavement and infrastructure that absorb and retain heat. The effect is increased energy costs, air pollution levels, and heat-related illness and mortality.

Connecting People, Planet, and the Green New Deal
In April, DeKalb County Commissioner Ted Terry introduced a resolution to create a resident-led DeKalb Environmental Justice Commission to provide for collaboration, transparency, and ensure accountability to create a more equitable and sustainable future for all. Join community leaders including GIPL’s Executive Director, Codi Norred, on June 29 from 9 a.m. - noon at New Life Church for an introductory forum to discuss the systemic issues impacting the county and how we plan to work collectively to solve these problems. The event will provide an update on Terry’s resolution as well as connect the progress of the Civil Rights movement with today’s call for environmental justice and sustainability for all communities. Eco-Clothing Swap
We're partnering with the Georgia Muslim Voter Project to host an Eco-Clothing Swap on June 12 from 6:30-9 p.m. at Black Coffee Co. (1800 Jonesboro Rd SE Suite C, Lakewood, GA 30315). Program Coordinator, Ayesha Abid, will lead a discussion about Islamic Environmental Stewardship and the environmental issues caused by "Fast Fashion." Participants will then have the opportunity to "shop" and "swap" gently used clothes, reducing waste and helping protect our shared planet. Register at the link below.

Faith, Food, and Land
Join Georgia Interfaith Power and Light (GIPL), Rafi, Metro Atlanta Urban Farm, and Georgia Young Farmers on April 25 from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Metro Atlanta Urban Farm (3271 Main St., College Park, GA 30337) to learn more about the connections between faith, food, and land. This event will bring together local farmers and faith leaders to learn about each other's work, collaborative measures, and how to advocate for a more just food system. “Keeping the Chattahoochee” Book Study
Join Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIPL) and Chattahoochee Riverkeeper's founding director, Sally Sierer Bethea, for a two-week study on her recent book Keeping the Chattahoochee.
Bethea was one of the first women in America to become a “riverkeeper”—a vocal defender of a specific waterway who holds polluters accountable. In Keeping the Chattahoochee, she tells stories that range from joyous and funny to frustrating―even alarming―to illustrate what it takes to save an endangered river. Her tales are triggered by the regular walks she takes through a forest to the Chattahoochee over the course of a year, finding solace and kinship in nature.

UMC Creation Justice Earth Day Vigil Watch Event
In partnership with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, the General Board of Church and Society, the Love Your Neighbor Coalition, and United Women In Faith, the United Methodist Creation Justice Movement is hosting an "Earth Day Vigil for Creation" on April 22 at 7 p.m. The main event will take place at First UMC, Charlotte before the United Methodist General Conference, with featured speaker/preacher Dr. Musa Dube from Candler School of Theology.
Decatur First UMC has agreed to serve as a North Georgia host site for the vigil live stream. Join us in person as we worship together, create prayer flags for Sacred Earth, and have a time of reflection for our planet.
