If your congregation has completed an energy audit in the past five (5) years and has a registered GIPL Green Team, or plans to start a Green Team in the next six (6) months, you are eligible to apply for matching grant funds to implement energy efficiency retrofits recommended in your audit report. The annual application cycle for this grant is open from now until Nov. 15.

Solar Loan Fund
GIPL offers zero-interest loans to fund solar projects for congregations. In order to assist congregations in going solar, we are offering a revolving loan fund that can make interest-free loans to congregations for the installation of photovoltaic systems for electricity and solar water heating systems (as long as they are replacing electric water heaters). The payback period is three years. Loans are available for up to $15,000.

Federal Funding
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), signed into law in August 2022, provides the most sweeping clean energy and climate legislation in the history of the United States. With the passage of the IRA, non-profits and houses of worship now have easier access to clean energy funds and tax credits through a program called “direct pay.” Before the IRA, only homeowners and commercial entities with some tax liability could claim tax credits when installing solar panels, wind turbines, or other eligible technologies on an eligible property. Now, the “direct pay” option means non-taxable entities can also benefit from these credits. Check out the benefits of the IRA below.

Ramadan Zero-Waste Iftar Grant
Masjids and other faith-based institutions interested in hosting Zero-Waste Iftars during Ramadan are eligible to apply for grant funding to help divert waste from landfills through recycling and composting. If awarded, grant recipients will receive compostable dinnerware, bags, buckets, and other supplies to help with waste diversion. GIPL will also provide training in how to separate, weigh, and track waste diversion efforts. This initiative not only helps reduce the environmental impact of iftar meals but also embodies the Islamic values of stewardship (Khilafah) and responsibility toward the Earth, fostering a community-wide commitment to sustainability and care for Allah’s creation.

2026 ReWilding Matching Grant
Congregations can apply for matching grants of up to $1,000 to support a ReWilding project of their choosing. Grant awards will be focused on the implementation of projects that support ecological regeneration of congregational lands, restoring habitats and biodiversity, and fostering more resilient ecosystems and communities.
Projects may include: pollinator gardens, meadow installations, bird sanctuaries, tree plantings, food forests, rain gardens, and rain barrels. Projects are not limited to these ideas, and imagination is encouraged! However, this grant funding is not intended to be used for site assessments or the removal of invasive species. We are available to consult with congregations on such projects, but they would need to be funded separately.
