Power-Wise Matching Grant
Congregations that have completed an energy audit in the past five (5) years and have a registered GIPL Green Team, or plan to start a Green Team in the next six (6) months, are eligible to apply for matching grant funds of $7,000 annually to implement energy efficiency retrofits recommended in their audit report. The Power-Wise Matching Grant cycle runs annually from May. 15 to Aug. 15.

ReWilding Matching Grant
Congregations can apply for matching grants of up to $1,500 to support a ReWilding project of their choosing. Grants will be awarded for the implementation of projects that support ecological regeneration of congregational lands, restoring habitats and biodiversity, and fostering more resilient ecosystems and communities. Projects may include pollinator gardens, meadow installations, bird sanctuaries, community gardens, tree plantings, food forests, rain gardens or rain catchment systems. Grant funding is not intended to be used for site assessments or removal of invasive species.

Four Directions Fund
Congregations that participate in an Introductory GIPL Workshop may apply for a seed grant of up to $500 to fund an eco-project of their choice. This may be anything from planting a community garden to helping congregation members upgrade LED lightbulbs in their homes.

Solar Loan Fund
GIPL offers zero-interest loans to fund solar projects for congregations. In order to assist congregations in going solar, we are offering a revolving loan fund that can make interest-free loans to congregations for the installation of photovoltaic systems for electricity and solar water heating systems (as long as they are replacing electric water heaters). The payback period is three years. Loans are available for up to $15,000.

Federal Funding
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), signed into law in August 2022, provides the most sweeping clean energy and climate legislation in the history of the United States. With the passage of the IRA, non-profits and houses of worship now have easier access to clean energy funds and tax credits through a program called “direct pay.” Before the IRA, only homeowners and commercial entities with some tax liability could claim tax credits when installing solar panels, wind turbines, or other eligible technologies on an eligible property. Now, the “direct pay” option means non-taxable entities can also benefit from these credits. Check out the benefits of the IRA below.

Ramadan Zero-Waste Iftar Grant
GIPL’s Ramadan Iftar Grant initiative supports masjids and faith-based organizations hosting Iftar (breaking of the fast) meals reduce waste and model environmental stewardship during this holy season. Grant recipients receive BPI-certified compostable materials for Iftar events, on-site volunteer training to ensure proper waste sorting, and support with composting costs as they divert food scraps and materials from landfills. Applications are open now and close Feb. 3, 2026.
