Tu B'Shvat Tree Planting
Celebrate Tu B'Shvat, the Jewish New Year of the Trees, with Georgia Interfaith Power and Light and Adamah ATL as we work together to plant trees in an Atlanta park on Feb. 9, 2025, from 1-4 p.m. By helping grow the city’s urban forest, we are providing cleaner air, cool shade, and improved habitat for intown humans and wildlife alike. Wylde Center Green Team Tour/Workday
Join fellow Green Team members at the Wylde Center Sugar Creek site in Decatur, Georgia on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for a tour and partial workday. Sugar Creek is meant to serve as a model for urban farming on unbuildable land and features pockets of pollinators, medicinal herbs, and community garden beds. Learn more and register below.

World River Day
Join us, the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, and Ismaili CIVIC on World River Day and Global Ismaili CIVIC Day, Sept. 15, to act upon a shared ethic of environmental stewardship and clean up seven sites in metro Atlanta including one at the Peachtree Creek Greenway in Brookhaven, two more in Decatur at the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve and Mason Mill Park, a location in Fulton County, Fayette County, Gwinnett County, and another in West Atlanta. Intown Family Garba 2024
All are invited to celebrate Navaratri at this year's Fifth Annual Intown Family Garba! There will be music, aarti, dancing, food, and popsicle treats! All proceeds from the event benefit Georgia Interfaith Power and Light (GIPL) and support work with faith communities across Georgia to engage issues of climate change, environmental injustice, pollution, and resource depletion, in pursuit of a society in which every living thing can flourish. Summer of Advocacy - Day of Visibility
Join us on July 18 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. as we conclude our inaugural Summer of Advocacy with a "honk and wave" visibility event in Atlanta. During the event, we will gather as people of faith and conscience outside the Office of U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia to raise awareness around the need to "Defend our Climate" and promote policies that lead to cleaner air, cleaner water, and environmental justice!
Green Team Tour: Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Join other metro Atlanta Green Teams on a sustainability tour of Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Mercedes-Benz is the first stadium in the world to be awarded the Total Resource Use and Efficiency (TRUE) Platinum certification for its zero-waste efforts. The stadium diverts over 90% of all waste generated from sporting events and concerts away from landfills, incineration, and the environment. It is also incredibly energy efficient, leveraging renewable energy from 4,000 solar PV panels and an innovative design to reduce electrical use by 29%. Learn more and register below.
Eco-Clothing Swap
We're partnering with the Georgia Muslim Voter Project to host an Eco-Clothing Swap on June 12 from 6:30-9 p.m. at Black Coffee Co. (1800 Jonesboro Rd SE Suite C, Lakewood, GA 30315). Program Coordinator, Ayesha Abid, will lead a discussion about Islamic Environmental Stewardship and the environmental issues caused by "Fast Fashion." Participants will then have the opportunity to "shop" and "swap" gently used clothes, reducing waste and helping protect our shared planet. Register at the link below.
Faith, Food, and Land
Join Georgia Interfaith Power and Light (GIPL), Rafi, Metro Atlanta Urban Farm, and Georgia Young Farmers on April 25 from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Metro Atlanta Urban Farm (3271 Main St., College Park, GA 30337) to learn more about the connections between faith, food, and land. This event will bring together local farmers and faith leaders to learn about each other's work, collaborative measures, and how to advocate for a more just food system. Green Team Tour: Johns Creek Environmental Campus
Join other Green Teams on a tour of the Johns Creek Environmental Campus. This 48-acre Fulton County waste-treatment facility includes a park, a nature trail system, including a cascading stream and pond system, and an educational facility where people can learn about water quality and the local environment. Capitol Conservation Day
Join GIPL and the rest of the Georgia Water Coalition on Feb. 27 from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. to meet with legislators and advocate for timely water legislation, including vital protections for the Okefenokee Swamp! This annual event begins with a continental breakfast, orientation, and issue briefings at the Central Presbyterian Church. Making Sense of Rooftop Solar in 2024
Join GIPL and Solarize Cobb for an exciting conversation with experts on the latest developments in Georgia's solar policy and regulatory landscape, as well as the practical implications for homeowners, business owners, and nonprofit organizations. The Public Service Commission (PSC) is currently evaluating Georgia Power’s 2023 Integrated Resources Plan (IRP) Update and there is hope that it will include more solar. Several bills in the Georgia General Assembly may also have an impact on residential and commercial rooftop solar. RSVP to learn more!
2024 Green Team Summit
Our annual Green Team Summit is on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Green Teams, faith leaders, and environmental activists from across the state will gather for a time of fellowship and shared learning. This year's theme is “Rooted in Resilience.”
Participants will learn practical insights for cultivating climate resilience in local communities and building a resilient democracy by advocating for environmentally just policies. This year's keynote speaker (to be announced in November) will inspire faith communities to develop and live out a resilient faith that carries a sense of hope and embodies an active response to addressing environmental injustices in Georgia and beyond.
The summit will also offer a series of workshops that will help equip congregations to build Green Teams, combat climate change through practical climate solutions, develop resiliency hubs, and engage in climate advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels.

CANCELLED - Plastics Contamination Cleanup
Join fellow environmentalists and Green Team members for a plastics contamination cleanup at CompostNow's Facility in Winston, Georgia on Dec. 1, 2023. Similar to a river cleanup, but part of our Zero-Waste program, we will help CompostNow remove plastic from compost. The Tour starts at 10 a.m. followed by the cleanup at noon.

Mason Mill Interfaith River Clean Up
Plan to join us, the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, and Ismaili Civic for a river clean-up on Oct. 22 from 2-5 p.m. This clean-up is part of two reschedulings of World River Day, originally planned for Sept. 17. We hope that you can join us at this clean-up or at one of our other three rescheduled clean-ups on Nov. 12.

The 2023 Intown Family Garba

CompostNow Green Team Tour
Join other Green Team members on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. for a tour of CompostNow's controlled, aerobic decomposition facility in West Georgia (6950 Post Rd, Winston, GA 30187). CompostNow is a commercial composting company that both individuals and faith communities may enter into contracts with to reduce waste and meet sustainability goals.
