I’m Ayesha Abid!

Hello, I am Ayesha Abid, the new program associate at Georgia Interfaith Power and Light (GIPL)! I will be helping Green Teams in the community work on new projects and innovate. I will also be the point person for GIPL’s Power-Wise and energy efficiency program.

I am a graduate of Georgia State University with a degree in Multimedia Journalism and minors in History and Japanese. I am currently pursuing my Master's in Library and Information Science at Syracuse University. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, learning to play the guitar, reading, and writing.

I have been in the organizing world for a few years now, working with the Georgia Muslim Voter Project, Asian American Advocacy Fund, and ProGeorgia. I am excited to bring my passion for helping communities to my work at GIPL and helping the Georgia faith community turn over a green new leaf!

While I am new to the world of environmental justice, I acknowledge how marginalized communities are most impacted by issues of climate change, climate poverty, and other climate-related impacts while those least at risk tend to be the leaders in the consumption of fossil fuels and other things that accelerate climate disasters.

I hope that the work I do with GIPL helps to address this disproportionate effect and encourages folks in their faith communities and their personal lives to be more mindful of the change they can help create. I hope to encourage others to stay educated and engaged with serving communities so that we can work together and build a greener Georgia and a cleaner planet for all.
