Coastal Green Team Summit: Profoundly Located
On October 20, the GIPL team gathered with forty Creation care champions for the first ever Coastal Green Team Summit. The Rev. Dr. Jennifer Ayres from Candler School of Theology kicked off the gathering reminding us that we are "profoundly located." And indeed, we were profoundly located at First Baptist Church Saint Simon's Island. For that we are deeply grateful!Dr. Ayres invited us all to consider the places that mean something to each of us. "It is impossible to care for the whole world without first cultivating a love for a particular place," began Dr. Ayres. As we turned to our neighbors to share this piece of information, you could hear memories of trees climbed, shorelines visited, and mountains ascended. We learned together that these places that have shaped us also are our means for inspiration to engage in sustained action that preserves and protects our earth.Participants engaged through workshops, a shared meal and an interfaith panel that included Rabbi Rachel Bregman and Rev. Dr. Tony Lankford joining Dr. Ayres. The goal of the day was to inspire and equip people of faith to engage in the environmental challenges facing Georgia's coastal communities.GIPL thanks our summit partners and workshop leaders for ensuring the event was a successful gathering for all!
