First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville Receives GIPL Grant

First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville, Georgia, was another church that received a GIPL Power Wise matching grant this past cycle to help implement energy efficiency in their church.  After completing an energy audit with GIPL last year, First UMC decided to focus their efforts on installing Wi-Fi thermostats throughout their buildings.  They received $4,811 through a GIPL grant in order to replace their old thermostats with 55 Wi-Fi thermostats. The church's first priority with their energy efforts was to bring down their energy costs since their buildings are used 7 days a week for a majority of each of those days.  The new Wi-Fi thermostats will help their staff control temperature settings and monitor daily changes in order to maintain better control of energy usage.  The new thermostats have the ability to save the church a significant amount each year that they can put towards other infrastructural improvements. The church focuses their Creation care efforts on educating their congregation about energy efficiency and good stewardship.  Our hope is that this commitment to energy efficiency will inspire them to engage in other Creation care practices in the coming months.Congratulations to First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville on these efforts! The next matching grant application deadline is November 15, 2016. If your congregation has not yet received a GIPL energy audit, visit our website to sign up today!
