Living into the True Light: Drawdown Georgia Initiatives at Sukyo Mahikari

As a lead on my spiritual center’s Green Team, I was thrilled to hear Hannah Shultz present Drawdown Georgia for Congregations on July 31. My center is part of a worldwide spiritual organization (Sukyo Mahikari) that promotes universal principles (Sukyo) and “True Light” (Mahikari), a spiritual energy purifying our spirit, mind and body and all of nature. We work with all world religions and seek to restore the global environment.  Thus, we have much in common with GIPL – in fact, Hannah’s visit was a bit of Christmas in July!  Sukyo Mahikari’s world leader has urged us to use the pandemic as a unique opportunity to save the environment and institute a “simple is best” way of life. In Japan, our headquarters has built small-scale hydroelectric power plants and the first “new energy facility” of its kind in the country. Like Drawdown Georgia, we look for sustainability efforts appropriate to the region. Locally, we’ve worked with Trees Atlanta and done neighborhood cleanups. Imagine our delight at Drawdown Georgia’s smorgasbord of options focused on Georgia opportunities—rooftop solar, composting, alternative mobility, etc. We also learned more about GIPL’s many programs—Solar Wise, waste audits, electric charging stations—and more! It’s hard to say what we’ll dive into next! We’ve already completed a GIPL energy audit and LED Light installation (pictured). After our Drawdown event, one member drafted a long list of recycling guidelines To see what happens next, call or write me at 513-328-0179 or rogersjimk@yahoo.com. We can share strategies or talk about opportunities to experience “Light!”_____________________________________________________________________About the Author:Jim Rogers is a leader on his faith community, Sukyo Mahikari's, Green Team.
