What the Power Wise program is doing--enroll today!

Below are reports on two congregations awarded Energy Improvement Matching Grants through enrollment in the Power Wise program in 2013.Since 2003, GIPL has helped congregations save precious energy & money with the Power Wise program, providing low-cost, professional energy audits to several hundred congregational facilities. On average, congregations have saved 10%–20% of their electricity bill, cutting nearly 11 million pounds of carbon from the atmosphere. Under Power Wise we have also granted $571,864 in matching grant funds to help congregations make the necessary energy efficiency upgrades that would otherwise be cost prohibitive.  GIPL can do a lot to help your congregation, but we need you to sign up! To be eligible for a matching grant, the energy audit must be completed by November 14, 2014.Email us to enroll in the Power Wise program today!All Saints Presbyterian, congregations, grants, Power Wise, energy grants, congregations, Georgia energy efficient churches, Georgia energy efficient synagogue, energy efficiency for congregationsAll Saints Presbyterian in Midland, Georgia received a Power Wise energy audit on August 23, 2013.  The report identified a series of energy conservation measures that could be used to increase energy efficiency and safe utility costs. The grant committee reviewed the application and approved $3,268 in matching funds to install five WiFi thermostats and installing blown-in attic insulation.The Building and Grounds Committee coordinate the creation care efforts at the church. Some of their initiatives include a conversion to eco-friendly dining utensils, a community garden to provide vegetables to local residents. Reverend Kate McGregor Mosley presented the check to the congregation on February 9, 2014. This was the congregation’s first GIPL matching grant.Christ Episcopal Church, congregations, grants, Power Wise, energy grants, congregations, Georgia energy efficient churches, Georgia energy efficient synagogue, energy efficiency for congregationsChrist Episcopal Church in Macon, Georgia received a Power Wise energy audit on April 19, 2013. The report detailed a series of energy conservation measures, and the church applied for funding to install three WiFi thermostats and blown-in attic insulation in the Harrold House. The grant committee approved a GIPL matching grant for $1,150 to implement the above measures. Reverend Alexis Chase, Executive Director, presented the check to the congregation on April 27, 2014. All Saints Presbyterian and Christ Episcopal Church were two of eleven faith communities that were awarded a total of $49,626 in Energy Improvement Matching Grants in November 2013.The next round of Matching Grants applications are due November 15, 2014.Matching Grant applications are on our website. Up to $10,000 is available to congregations interested in implementing suggestions from their Power Wise Energy Audits to reduce energy consumption and costs.
