Plastic-Free Pledge
Plastics are one of the greatest waste challenges we face. The production of plastic materials contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, and many plastics cannot be easily recycled. Reducing our consumption of plastics is an effective way to decrease the negative impacts of plastic production and pollution in our environment. For these reasons, we, the undersigned, commit to Georgia Interfaith Power & Light’s Plastic-Free Pledge to reduce plastic materials in our buildings, at meals and events, and in our community.
Ban Plastic Water Bottles
We pledge to ban the use of plastic water bottles on campus by providing water filling stations, reusable or compostable cups, reusable water bottles and/or other sustainable methods of making water available to our congregation.
Ban Plastic Single-Use Serviceware
We pledge to reduce single-use plastic at meals, events, and coffee hours by utilizing reusable or compostable cups, plates, cutlery, and serving pieces.
Ban Styrofoam
We pledge to ban the use of Styrofoam products in our congregation and replace them with reusable or compostable products.
Adopt Policy for Environmentally Preferred Purchasing
Environmentally Preferred Purchasing (EPP) is the practice of buying products and services that have a reduced negative impact on the environment. We pledge to develop an EPP policy that works for our congregation, prioritizing products that are recyclable, compostable, and made from sustainable materials.
Take Action to Reduce Plastic in Your Community
We pledge to take proactive steps in reducing plastic pollution in our community by organizing River Cleanups and/or setting up a Live Thrive CHaRM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials) Train, helping our faith community collect and properly dispose of hard-to-recycle materials.
