Over 300 Faith Leaders Gather in Atlanta to Discuss Climate Solutions at GIPL’s 2025 Green Team Summit
ATLANTA — In the wake of recent cuts to federal environmental funding, over 300 faith leaders from more than 100 congregations across Georgia gathered at Northside United Methodist Church on Sunday, February 23, 2025, for Georgia Interfaith Power & Light’s (GIPL) annual Green Team Summit. The event, themed “Seeding Life,” focused on empowering faith communities to continue to take action on climate change and advocate for sustainable practices in Georgia.
The summit featured keynote speaker Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr., President and CEO of Hip Hop Caucus, who delivered an inspiring message on living a faith grounded in hope and resilience in the face of the climate crisis. He emphasized, “Faith has to be a part of the prescription to transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.”
Following his message, a panel of local faith leaders shared how their communities are already implementing climate solutions, and attendees participated in workshops on topics such as ReWilding, solar implementation, and advocacy on state and federal climate policy.
“We are energized and inspired by the collective action of faith communities across our state,” said Codi Norred, Executive Director of GIPL. “No matter how steep the climb or intense the obstacles, together we are building an interfaith movement that will ensure our communities are ready for the environmental and social challenges ahead. Today, we planted the seeds for a more sustainable, resilient future—one rooted in hope, justice, and collaboration.”
The summit also honored the recipients of the GIPL Power-Wise Awards, recognizing over $70,000 in grant funding provided to congregations for energy efficiency projects. The date and location of GIPL’s 2026 Green Team Summit will be announced this Summer.
