Warnock’s Office To Mark IRA Anniversary with GIPL and Georgia BRIGHT in Statesboro

What: In honor of the second anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIPL) is hosting a press conference with Senator Warnock’s office at Trinity Episcopal Church, Statesboro, to celebrate the congregation’s new solar project made possible by the historic legislation. The project’s 64 solar panels were installed last month by Sunpath Solar through Capital Good Fund’s Georgia BRIGHT program, which takes advantage of direct pay benefits from the IRA to lower energy costs for low-income households and nonprofits. The 31 kW system in the shape of a cross is expected to save the parish an estimated $62,000 over the next 25 years, allowing them to invest more in mission and ministry with their community.

When: Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, from 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Where: Trinity Episcopal Church, Statesboro (4401 Country Club Rd, Statesboro, GA 30458), Main Entrance, Porte Cochere

Who: Remarks will be given by Andrew Young II, Outreach Coordinator for Senator Warnock's Office, Father Charles Todd, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Statesboro, Dr. Lissa Leege, Professor of Biology at Georgia State University and Green Team Leader at Trinity Episcopal, Alicia Brown, Director of Georgia BRIGHT, and Beth Remmes, Coastal Outreach and Resiliency Coordinator for GIPL.

Why: Georgia is one of the top five states in the country with the highest energy burden. Despite dramatic decreases in the cost of clean energy, solar options remain out of reach for most low-and-moderate income (LMI) communities. In Georgia, average energy bills were 14% higher than the national average from 2010-2021. Upcoming utility-rate hikes are expected to increase bills by nearly $48 over the next two years. GIPL and Georgia BRIGHT Solar Communities are opening up opportunities for congregations to model energy independence and faithful resilience in their communities.

Photo Op: All speakers will be available for photos following the event. The solar project is visible from the parking lot. Drone footage will be provided upon request.
