Faith In Action Across Georgia

At Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIPL), we believe that protecting Sacred Earth is a moral calling. Clean water and sustainable energy are essential for the health of our communities, the vitality of Georgia’s ecosystems, and the well-being of future generations. As people of faith, we are called to be stewards of this shared home, advocating for policies that ensure safe, accessible water, renewable energy, and environmental justice for all.

Explore priority issues below and take action to make a difference today. Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier, and more just future for Georgia.

  • Okefenokee Protection

The Okefenokee Swamp, a vital 438,000-acre National Wildlife Refuge and one of Georgia's Seven Natural Wonders, faces threat from proposed mining near its border, but ongoing efforts aim to protect its delicate ecosystem.

  • Blake Plateau Conservation

About 80-100 miles off the Georgia coast, the Blake Plateau is home to the world’s largest known deep-water coral reef, a 200-mile-long ecosystem teeming with rare marine life. As industries push farther offshore, this slow-growing and fragile habitat faces increasing threats and needs our protection.

  • Energy Burden

As climate change drives extreme heat and Georgia Power raises bills, low-income communities and communities of color are forced to choose between essentials like food and electricity. Everyone deserves safe, clean and affordable energy!

  • Fair Energy Future

Large data centers consume massive amounts of electricity, driving up costs for everyday Georgians. GIPL supports policies that ensure these facilities pay their fair share, promoting corporate responsibility and protecting local communities from unnecessary rate hikes.

  • Ending Biomass Expansion

Biomass (burning wood pellets for energy) emits more carbon per megawatt than coal, worsening the climate crisis and harming air quality—especially in low-income, rural, and coastal Georgia communities. It must end!

  • Clean Energy Access

Community solar makes clean energy more accessible and affordable by allowing households to subscribe to shared solar projects. Expanding these programs in Georgia can lower energy costs, boost grid resilience, and create high-quality jobs.

The Georgia Public Service Commission has the power to choose a just and moral path for our energy future and say NO to Georgia Power’s fossil fuel expansion.
