Tykivious Grier (he/him)
South Georgia Organizer
Tykivious “Ty” Grier serves as the South Georgia Organizer for Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIPL), where he partners with faith communities, civic leaders, and grassroots organizations to address environmental justice issues and promote sustainable solutions across the region.
Before joining GIPL, Ty worked as an environmental justice organizer with the New Georgia Project, where he helped lead the “My Utilities, My Power” campaign and contributed to the development of the Black and Green Agenda. He brings over five years of experience in the nonprofit sector, including work as a Youth and Family Wellness Specialist, where he focused on community health, youth development, and family engagement in Southwest Georgia.
Ty holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Public Administration from Albany State University. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Higher Education Leadership, with research focused on expanding college access for rural, first-generation college students.
He is also a proud alumnus of the Kairos Digital Organizing Fellowship and 9to5’s Center for Grassroots Leadership (CFJP) Fellowship, and a two-time recipient of the Rural Leader 40 Under 40 Magazine award (2022 and 2024) for his outstanding leadership and community impact.
Outside of his work with GIPL, Ty is a licensed and ordained evangelist, a First Year Experience Instructor at Albany State University, and a dedicated advocate for youth, education, and faith-based civic engagement. He enjoys preaching, traveling, and spending time with family in his hometown of Georgetown, Georgia.
