Dar Un Noor Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, received a GIPL Power Wise Energy Efficiency Matching Grant for this cycle in order to install Wi-Fi thermostats and complete an LED lighting retrofit based on a completed GIPL energy audit.  The Islamic academy received $8,865 to implement these energy efficiency upgrades.  They have a large building with high energy costs annually, and their energy audit with GIPL revealed that Wi-Fi thermostats would save the school up to 10% off of their annual energy bills in addition to a savings of 22.5% by replacing old fluorescent lamps with LED lamps.Dar Un Noor Academy is an Islamic school in Atlanta that provides a multidisciplinary education to students while fostering leadership and a balanced character.  Their theme for their 2016-2017 school year is "Sustainability," including faith, finances, physical wellbeing, and environmental education and awareness.  One of their environmental sustainability initiatives for this year is to encourage students and community members to decrease water consumption by 10-15%.  Dar Un Noor practically implements efficiency and conservation by being careful with printing on paper at school and thus, communicating electronically to reduce paper waste; expanding their recycling practices; and using reusable plates and cups in their dining hall.  The teachers and students also incorporate recycling and sustainability by hosting drives for books, toys, clothing, and food, and distributing these collected items to those in need in the community.Congratulations to Dar Un Noor Academy on their matching grant, and their continued efforts to conserve water and increase their energy efficiency!  We look forward to their continued work with the GIPL community, and hope that their sustainability efforts inspire other faith communities across Georgia to join GIPL's Power Wise program. The next matching grant application deadline is November 15, 2016. If your congregation has not yet received a GIPL energy audit, visit our website to sign up today!
