White Bluff Presbyterian Receives GIPL Grant

White Bluff Presbyterian Church in Savannah, Georgia received a GIPL Power Wise Energy Efficiency Matching Grant to get them started on their lighting upgrades. A once dark and under-lit but high-energy use sanctuary, the church will now receive a bright improvement this year.As a part of their Sanctuary Lighting Project, the matching grant will help the church upgrade their sanctuary lighting to LED bulbs, and thus increasing their energy efficiency.  This project is aimed at reducing the church's overall energy consumption.  Their completed 2015 energy audit with GIPL showed that White Bluff Presbyterian actually had relatively low energy consumption.  Since the church buildings are used for community events and outside clubs in addition to worship, the church wanted to lessen the energy strain on their church budget.  From their GIPL energy audit, the new LED bulbs in the sanctuary are slated to save them up to 10% on their electric bill.Other ways that White Bluff Presbyterian is committed to energy efficiency includes their use of energy efficient appliances and fixtures, using recycled building materials or materials that can be recycled after their use, and cutting down on the use of disposable products.  They also engage their congregation and community in Creation care by implementing greater recycling efforts and created a Vacation Bible School curriculum that focused on nature and care for Creation.Congratulations to White Bluff Presbyterian Church on their matching grant, and good work on your continued sustainability efforts! The next matching grant application deadline is November 15, 2016. If your congregation has not yet received a GIPL energy audit, visit our website to sign up today!
