First Baptist Church of Blakely Receives GIPL Grant

First Baptist Church in Blakely, Georgia, was awarded another GIPL Energy Efficiency Matching Grant to upgrade their lighting to LED fixtures.  Many energy efficiencies have been incorporated already at this historic church in South Georgia following their GIPL energy audit a few years ago. Now the church is upgrading the old lighting in their Choir Room to energy efficient LED fixtures.  They received $688 in order to implement these lighting upgrades.First Baptist Church of Blakely has committed to an ongoing LED project to upgrade all of the lighting in the church buildings.  Last year, the church converted all of their lighting in the sanctuary to LED fixtures.  Their next step is to install LED lights in the education building.  This church has received 2 GIPL grants in the past to help with insulation, LED lighting upgrades, and WiFi thermostats for their buildings.  The church does not have an official Creation care team, but their church leaders encourage congregation members to be good stewards of the earth.  Their Royal Ambassador Boys collect aluminum cans for a missionary family in Russia and one of their women's classes collects soup labels for a ministry in New Orleans.  With the energy savings that they have received so far from their implemented energy efficiency measures, the church has been able to grow its ministries budget.Congratulations to First Baptist Church of Blakely on their continued commitment to energy efficiency!  We look forward to seeing this passionate congregation increase their Creation care efforts and seeing how they expand their sustainability to serve the wider Blakely community. The next matching grant application deadline is November 15, 2016. If your congregation has not yet received a GIPL energy audit, visit our website to sign up today!
