Mohammed Schools of Atlanta Receives GIPL Grant

The Mohammed Schools of Atlanta was awarded a GIPL Power Wise Energy Efficiency Matching Grant to help them in implementing energy saving measures.  This Islamic school on the eastside of Atlanta completed an energy audit with GIPL last summer to see where energy improvements were needed.  After the energy audit, the school decided to upgrade their thermostats to WiFi thermostats, replacing old lighting with energy saving light fixtures, and installing LED exit signs with a GIPL grant of $5,694.The Mohammed Schools of Atlanta is a nonprofit school in Atlanta for students from age 3 to 18 geared towards African-American Muslim students.  Through community and academic achievements, the school supports students in their educational and character growth to reach their goals.  Based on their commitment to taking care of Creation, the school established a team made up of science students, students from the after school program, parents, volunteers, staff, and administration to maintain their responsibility to their community and resources.  The school has a community garden that they use to keep the community aware of environmental care and engage their students in Creation care.  They also spread awareness about Creation Care through environmental education and recycling initiatives.  The GIPL grant will help the school expand their energy saving and become more ecologically sound.Congratulations to the Mohammed Schools of Atlanta for their continued commitment to environmental stewardship and wanting to increase the sustainability of their buildings!  We look forward to seeing how the school grows in their energy savings and eco-consciousness.  Hopefully their work will inspire others within the community and their faith tradition to strengthen their own sustainability and stewardship practices, as well as involvement with GIPL's Power Wise program. The next matching grant application deadline is November 15, 2016. To date, the Power Wise Matching Grant program has awarded over $750,000 to congregations across Georgia to improve their energy efficiency efforts. If your congregation has not yet received a GIPL energy audit, visit our website to sign up today!
