Islamic Community Center of Atlanta Receives GIPL Grant
The Islamic Community Center of Atlanta in Fayetteville, Georgia, received a GIPL Energy Efficiency Matching Grant to replace old inefficient light bulbs with energy saving LED bulbs in their building. After completing an energy audit with GIPL, the ICCA decided to implement retrofits with their 4 T-12 light fixtures utilizing a matching grant of $850 from GIPL in addition to rebates from Georgia Power. The ICCA is a meeting place and worship site for Muslims living the the Fayetteville area of South Atlanta. Once the mosque leadership learned about the potential energy and financial savings available to them through GIPL's program, they committed to incorporating more environmentally-friendly practices within their faith community. The matching grant from GIPL will go towards updating their old light fixtures with LED lighting. These LED fixtures will reduce their energy consumption by about 76%! Along with energy saving lights, the ICCA also reduces energy by only using indoor lighting and appliances when needed. Though they do not have a formal Creation care team, the ICCA has a commitment to recycling, which they focus on particularly during Ramadan. They are also looking forward to co-hosting a GIPL HEAT Class (Home Energy Audit Training) with other congregations in Fayetteville who have also received GIPL energy audits.Congratulations to the Islamic Community Center of Atlanta on their growing energy saving efforts! We look forward to working with them more on their Creation care efforts and seeing how they expand their environmental sustainability work. The next matching grant application deadline is November 15, 2016.
