Rallying in Support of the Clean Power Plan
Yesterday in downtown Atlanta, we gathered with Sierra Club and Environment Georgia at the Capitol to support Obama's announcement of the Clean Power Plan. We heard from environmental, religious, and political powerhouses, all carrying the rally cry for clean energy.Speakers included:Laura Turner Seydel, Captain Planet Foundation chair, and co-founder of Mothers and Others for Clean AirMikayla Wiseman, Tucker High School student, asthma sufferer, and youth climate activistRev. William Flippin, Lutheran minister and 3rd Vice President of NAACPState Senator Elena ParentJohn Nole, owner, Energy and Environment LLC, energy efficiency expertScott Holcomb, state representativeRev. Dr. Gerald Durley, IPL Board Member, White House Champion of Change, civil rights activistSupporters gathered at Liberty Plaza, adding signatures in thanks to President Obama, and raising voices in praise of new regulations on carbon emissions for a cleaner, for efficient energy future in the U.S.Rev. Dr. Durley closed out the speaker lineup with a rousing message about freedom—the right to clean air and water for everyone:"We will demand it, starting today! We will not bend down, we will not break. We will fight for the Clean Power Plan!"We still have work to do! As Rev. Dr. Durley says, "We've got to mobilize!"
